Welcome to our website

Citizenship and Personal, Social and Health Education

All the staff here are committed to developing ‘the whole child’. So, improving personal and social skills and teaching about health are high priorities.

The ethos of the school and the Behaviour Management system promote personal, social development and emotional aspects of learning. This is also a key part of the Foundation Curriculum for the Reception Class.

Pupils are encouraged to take on roles of responsibility within the school community.  Year 6 pupils act as Counsellors, helping to support other children at playtimes and lunchtimes, and we have a developing school council – the Mossgate Parliament  -  which is giving children the opportunity to influence the development of the school.  Children from Year 2 to Year 6 have the opportunity to stand for election to the Mossgate pupil parliament, to enable them to have a voice in the running of the school.

Our Education Support Worker, Mr. Devey, works with small groups and classes to teach the children about issues such as keeping safe, racism, being a responsible citizen and a good friend and developing a healthy lifestyle.  Children take part in a drug education programme as they move through the school.  Mr. Devey also works with individual children in liaison with their parents to provide counselling and to help them at times of change or when they are experiencing problems in their personal and social development.
